The Tokyo Game Show was first
held in 1996, and since that time has grown along with the game industry to
become the world’s premier computer entertainment show.
This year’s Tokyo Game Show
will be the 18th held to date. Last year’s event, the first TGS featuring 2 business days, demonstrating a
greater focus on B to B exchanges, broke records in every category, including
number of business visitors (over 62,000), exhibitors (217), media registrants
(4,670), for a total of over 193,000 visitors.
The 2008 event will again offer
four-days, including two business days, offering a fuller business component,
exhibition program and stronger trade show attractions than ever before with
the purpose of establishing TGS as
the world’s foremost computer entertainment show.

As a participant to the
Canadian Embassy initiative you will benefit from:
The Canada Pavilion: Will be manned by
bilingual staff (Japanese-English) to take messages on your behalf and greet
your guests. High speed internet access will be available for free, as well as
a phone and fax. The Pavilion will provide you with the ideal environment
to promote your technology, product or service. In addition to the full space rental
(3mX3m) we also offer the more economic option of renting half booths and
quarter booths. Slightly more expensive than the delegate's package, but
providing space to display your promotional material and even put up posters
thus greatly improving your visibility and branding.
Seminar: A seminar will be held at the Embassy during which
Canadian companies will be given the opportunity to present their products in
front of an audience composed of contacts from the Japanese gaming
industry. Simultaneous translation will be provided. With the cooperation
of local industry associations, we usually attract around 150 contacts.
One on One meetings: The one on one meetings are the most important
element of our initiative and I am currently on a tour of all the important
Japanese game companies to ask them to meet with all our Canadian participants.
Every Japanese company that I have met so far has accepted, which means that on
the day before the pavilion set-up at the venue, each Canadian participant
should get to meet with 5 - 10 relevant business contacts. The Embassy can also accept request for
meetings that you would like with specific companies identified by you.We will do our best to identify the
appropriate person in the desired company and arrange a meeting for you.
Mini trade show: Each Canadian company will have its stand in the
theatre lobby to give our visitors the opportunity to meet with you easily,
before, during, and after the presentations.
Networking Reception at the Embassy: The Seminar will be followed
by a reception at the Embassy. Participants are welcome to invite their local
contacts at no cost. You will be given the opportunity to showcase your
company at your mini-booth at the reception. It will be an excellent
opportunity to entertain your existing contacts and network with new ones. Small
but very focussed guests list, including only relevant contacts.
Meetings with Taiwanese and Korean companies: The Seoul
and Taipei Trade Commissioners will accompany delegations from Korea and Taiwan to the
Tokyo Game Show and facilitate meetings with the Canadian participants.
Meetings with Japanese
companies: In collaboration with the Show organisers, we will organise meetings
with Japanese buyers interested in your company. Participants interested in
making use of this service should send us their company profile in English or
Japanese before July 21st.
Exhibitor's status: This status gives you access to all the services
provided by the TGS organisers,
including the profile of your company, in Japanese, in the show directory (hard
copy and online), access to the semi-private meeting rooms, as well as access to
the conferences and possibility to attend the CESA reception.

Visit Information:
It is hard to
predict the cost of flight to Japan many months in advance, but depending on
the season and the airline, it is fairly common to find flights for less than
$1000. The Embassy can recommend hotels that are convenient and
comfortable for a reasonable price, where you can stay for less than $150
a night (Tax included). If you add $60 per day for food, and assuming that you
will find a flight for approx. $1,000, a stay in Tokyo from March 19 to March 26 could
cost around $2,500.
You should plan to
leave Canada on the 5th
to be on time for the seminar on the 7th, because of the time
difference and arrival time for flight from North America.
Please note that
the Tokyo Game Show is open to the general public Saturday and Sunday, and reserved
to industry people on Thursday and Friday.
